The Isle of Gap
Location: Between Indonesia and the Cocos Islands
Features: A small island only 30 square miles in diameter, the Isle of Gap is the only known large colony of the species of Kaiju known as Gappa. The island has a lush jungle in it's center, with a rising mountainside at it's northern edge. It tapers down into a grassland that slowly turns into the forest that rings the island, which naturally is surrounded by the beach at it's outermost edge. A river runs through the center of the island, with a swell of lake in it's middle.
Gappa are of medium size and weight and appear as green, scaly griffins, and are known to breathe fire. While Gappa have been ecountered sporadically on islands across the South Pacific, this appears to be their land of origin; consequentially, the numbers of Gappa here range to about forty or fifty of the beasts.
Gappa aren't terribly violent Kaiju, though they can be very precocious if provoked. They feed on all manner of large mammals. Their island is also home to unique species of cow, oxen, rhino-like goats, and various other jungle and plainsland animals.
Gappa tend to disregard mankind in general, though they can display a curious side to their nature. They are very protective of each other, ot the point where if they sense one of their own in danger, the whole colony is liable to retaliate. Even the deadliest Kaiju on Earth try to avoid hostilities with the tenacious Gappa.
To protect the species, the Isle of Gap is considered an international preserve, and it is illegal to set foot on the island without proper authorization from either a govermental branch or G-Force. The only touchof civilisation on the whole Isle is a small G-Force outpost manned by a servive android. The android shift change occurs one every eight months.
While Gappa tend to be encountered in the wild only in certain areas of the South Pacific, some of the more popular and larger zoos on the planet have smaller breeds of domesticated Gappa as specimens. Domesticated Gappa are rather small and have a bluish tint to their scales. They also cannot seem to rouse a combustive reaction in their breath attack, instead spewing out a blast of flammable gases. Domesticated Gappa get along moderately well with wild Gappa, though their bigger cousins' attitudes to their smaller bretheren is sympathetic at best and condescending at worst.
