Geneva, Ohio
What a long day.
In six hours, Sidney Walker had been to every corner of the small, isolated town of Geneva and back. For the fifth time that week. She was driving along a street the name of which Sidney had already forgotten. She didn't care. She just wanted to go home to her dirty apartment, eat a cheap premade meal of genetically engineered food, and go to sleep. Only for her week to start all over again.
It was Thursday. Friday was her last day, then she had the weekend off. Not that that helped things. Most likely, all she would do to pass the long hours of boredom was get groceries and sit in bed watching television, the only small comfort Sidney had. The rest of her life could just as well be hell, what with haggling with old senile women who saw everything from right to left, letcherous old men who looked like they had lived one too many days longer than they should have, and peers at the nursing home who didn't seem to care.
In the back two elderly women gossiped about something Sidney couldn't hear. It irritated her, but outwardly she didn't seem to mind, just bearing the expression of bored exhaustion upon her face. She steered the bus around a corner and put on the brakes, halting next to a bus stop.
"There's your stop ladies," she said in a monotone voice. The two got up and shuffled to the front while Sidney took a brief respite to rest in her drivers seat, waiting to see if anyone else would board. She hoped nobody would.

A young man with sunglasses stepped onto the bus. He wore an olive green trench coat and black gloves, paying for his fare as he took a seat right across from Sidney's own seat.

Sidney glanced over at him, cocking an eyebrow at several things.
First of all, it was a young man. Not the gaffers she dealt with every day, but someone closer to her age. Hopefully he wasn't a jerk like the frat boy wannabe who stopped by the nursing home every now and then. Second, was his attire. She had never seen anything quite like what he was wearing, and couldn't help but glance over a few times to make sure she was seeing things right. Trenchcoats were usually black, grey, or sandy, but olive green? That was too weird for her. Thirdly, was where he was sitting. Nobody ever sat that close to her. Ever.
Sidney looked out, and saw no one else waiting. The doors closed automatically, and she picked up speed, heading towards Main Street.
"Where to?" she asked without a care in the world.

The man's smile was gentle.
"The Gardens apartment complex, please."

Her eyebrow rose up again. That was where she lived.
"Okay then," Sidney said, casting the issue from her concern. After a few moments she turned on the radio. A report came in concerning a kaiju attempting an assault on Columbus.
"Wonderful. Least the fucker is leaving us alone," she muttered under her breath, staring at the road.

"Heh.. thank goodness." The man said calmly. He raised his head up towards Sidney.
"What's your opinion on kaiju, if you don't mind me asking..?"

"They can burn in hell for all I care," she responded, a hint of venom in her voice.
"S.O.B.s screw up our lives down here enough as is."

"Not much. Just my parents."
Sidney wondered to herself why she was even bothering with this conversation.

"Don't need to be. Didn't like them anyway." Sidney's demeanor was cold and bitter, but not in the way that one in mourning would be like.

"I see.." The man was silent as he looked out the window to see them continue at an even pace towards their destination.

The apartment complex soon came into veiw as they stopped at a crossing, which featured an updated version of a rather old system of stoplights that used tobe prevalent. The building itself was similarly a relic of the early 21th Century, one of the few to remain after World War III, fitted with cannibalized technology to update it. It was about two stories tall, drab and unimpressive where it stood. Just an ugly sore in an ugly town.
The light changed, and Sidney silently drove on.

"How long have you lived here?"

"Ever single year of my life." Her voice was unenthusiastic.
