3 Days earlier.... Mt Cheyenne, Colorado
A nervous Sargent rushes into Colonel Eaton's office,
"Sir, important news form NASA" the Sargent says with a quick saute
Looking up from his desk "At ease soldier, report."
"NASA's Mars satellites report a large meteor of unknown origin passing by, the satellites were able to record the object in question and scientist believe its another Kaiju headed for earth" Sargent says handing the report to the Colonel.
Eaton begins to skim the report and analyze the photos and the data sent by NASA. "Thank you Sargent, you are dismissed."
With a nod the Sargent turns and leaves. Leaving the Colonel to finish off the report, the last few pages are estimated trajectories and impact estimates. Further study of the papers reveal an estimated 85% likely hood if it landing in north west US maby Canada, impact expectations vary from standard meteor impact with minor seismic repercussions, to serious impact with moderate seismic activity. His brow furrowed as the pictures and video data make it all the more clear that this was not another meteor headed for earth.
Yellowstone National Park, Montana, 6:17am
Day break as the sun rose over the trees warming the springs and geysers waking the animal life to another day of activity. the animals were startled this morning as they awoke to not one sun but a second smaller red sun approaching from the west, not bright enough to shed a fraction of the light of the sun but radiant enough to be easily picked out against the purple retreating night.
David Mretello is a helicopter enthusiast who majored in aerial photography, most of his work was done in wild life shots for such articles as national geographic and other wildlife magazines, his duty this morning was to photograph the effects of surface warming on geyser eruption frequency and intensity, his current information was based on others studies of geothermal activity increasing causing irregular geyser eruptions, clearly that metamucil commercial and Old Faithful was overdue for a false advertising lawsuit. He brushed the thoughts aside as his helio lifted from the ground and proceeded to the target site.
Approaching the site he noticed the red star against the violet night in the west, as an spare time astronomer he know that Venus usually made an appearance as the first star to appear or the last to leave the sky but it was never this red or that large to appear this late in the morning. Disregarding it for the time being and continuing this photography he circled south so he wouldn't have to fight the glare from the eastern sun. Finding an appropriate spot he glanced at the phenomenon before returning to his camera only to double take at the realization that the fiery orb is growing in size!
An inflamed roar echoes across Yellowstone as this meteor hurtles across the sky, animals flee in all directions, flocks of birds scatter like cockroaches from light, the earth trembles as this interstellar object impacts the soft geyser riddled ground snuffing out the energy expelled upward and channeling down though the crevices and steam paths below ground, the shudder can be felt for miles but as for David his camera shutter flickering like a mad man as spool by spool of film is devoured only to save this moment in history like the filming of the first atomic bomb, the only other "witnesses" of this event were the early bird crew who were at Old Faithful who suffice to say shouldn't of bothered taking a shower this morning as they all were doused in mineral water from an eruption so large none of the forest rangers could remember an eruption as grandiose or terrifying depending on the source. But as for David, he bore witness to the emergence of who the world would come to know as A.M.H.A.T.
