The silence of the mountain forest was suddenly disturbed by the ominous thud of an approaching being. Birds flew away and other small denizens of the woods scampered to hideouts. A pine tree was knocked over as the creature moved.
Ymir could smell the sulfur. It made his mouth water. He had been searching all night for the sulfur deposit and now, he finally found it. It was here, in these woods. Finally, he stopped and smelled the earth. With his talons, he began to dig away at the ground. Finally, the sulfur was found. He began to pick up handfuls of the mineral and chomp away.
At his foot, a lone, brave bear began to claw at his toe. Ymir just gave it a quick slab with his open claw, and it was dead. Perhaps he would enjoy some meat with his mineral meal.

Nearby…
Amarok had been roused from his sleep by a disturbance. Something had entered his territory and he could smell it from his current location. Rising to his feet, he sniffed the air quickly, catching wind of whatever the thing was. Heading west he wasted no time announcing his intentions, raising his head to the sky and releasing a howl that shook the trees.

The howl carried for miles. Ymir heard it while he was just finishing his sulfur meal. Some other monster was close to him. The Ymir stood up straight, thumped his tail on the ground, and released his own, distinctive howl. It was a howl of challenge.

It took only mere moments for the challenge to be answered, this time by a vicious, bestial growl as Amarok arrived, skidding to a halt with saliva dripping from his fangs. Bracing his legs, his head down to the ground and tail standing on end he looked ready to leap upon the beast. The sunlight glinted off his metallic teeth and claws, framing his head in light as he snarled at the large creature waiting for its response.

Ymir once more howled at his opponent. A wolf it was. He had seen this creatures before, but not one of this size. He assumed it to be a vicious creature.
Ymir's tail writhed as he awaited his opponent's attack.

Amarok tensed for a moment then sprang with incredible speed. His powerful jaws snapped shut as they sank into the forearm of the large alien beast before him as he attempted to draw first blood and send the thing running from his territory.

Ymir howled as he felt the fangs sink into his arm. He began to pound his opponent's head with his fist in hopes of loosening him.

For the first several hits Amarok stayed steadfastly locked on the arm, but after the barrage continued and the ache in his head grew, the giant wolf released Ymir. Backing away he began to circle the monster, metallic teeth bared as he waited for the proper moment to attack once more.

Ymir rushed Amarok and planted a firm knee into the wolf's face. Ymir loomed over the mammal in preparation for the next attack.

The knee connected hard and Amarok dropped to the ground for a moment. Regaining his feet the wolf turned and ran as if he were retreating only to spin around, fangs bore as he snarled at the interloper. Coming at the large beast from the side this time he latched onto the leg just behind the knee, his teeth sinking in as he tried to tear at the hamstring.
